Aliyah Boston has been making headlines both on and off the court. Aliyah Boston is a professional basketball player in the WNBA for the Indiana Fever. Boston is a forward who has been in the league for 3 years out of the University of South Carolina. Boston made waves this past season as she was named to both the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team and the All-WNBA Second Team. This is her first time receiving these honors, adding to her resume, which includes 3x all-star, Rookie of the Year, and #1 pick. However, Boston has put herself in an opportunity to be more than just an athlete.
Boston is still a current player in the WNBA, but she has been doing some other interesting work on the side. Boston began her broadcasting career shortly after her rookie season with NBC and Peacock in the 2023-2024 season, where she served as a studio analyst for women’s Big Ten basketball. She also joined ESPN’s NCAA studio for the women’s Final Four in April of 2024.
Just recently in late September, Boston announced she’d be returning to NBC and Peacock as a studio and game analyst for women’s Big Ten basketball. It’s inspiring for everyone, especially women, to see her thrive in her career of multiple pursuits. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a communications degree, which helped her achieve and thrive in her broadcasting career. She also takes inspiration from other WNBA athletes who worked in the broadcasting field, such as Chiney Ogwumike, Candace Parker, Rebecca Lobo, Kelsey Plum, and more. There are also athletes outside of the WNBA who have taken the same path, such as Draymond Green and Greg Olson.
In an episode of Post Moves with Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston, Boston said, “I’m very excited, I love broadcasting. It’s so fun to be able to talk about basketball, and then you get to see everyone that’s going to be coming into the league.” She added, “It’s like, now is the time to hype them up. Let them know we’re excited for them to come, and that’s what I love about it.”
It will also be a nice salary boost for Boston, as the WNBA is currently trying to figure out how to raise the pay for its players. Boston is an example of athletes going beyond playing their sport, creating an impact off the court.
